She stressed that differences should be resolved through adherence to international law and Venezuela’s constitution, insisting that dialogue remains the preferred approach. Rodriguez also noted that certain extremist factions had tried to use the US intervention to create instability, but she praised the public for responding with “maturity and restraint.”
Following the airstrikes and related events, Rodriguez said the country is now in a recovery phase, with calm and security gradually returning. She affirmed, “The Venezuelan people want to preserve their sovereignty, safeguard national independence, peace and tranquility.”
Highlighting national unity on handling foreign disagreements, she said, “If there is one thing in which Venezuelans are united, it is that any controversy, any disagreement with the United States government must be addressed diplomatically, through political dialogue.”
Referring to the US military operation on January 3, which included targeted strikes and resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, Rodriguez commented, “this attack constitutes a stain on our relations, and we must work diligently and respectfully to overcome our differences.”
Maduro and Flores were transported to New York City, where they entered pleas of not guilty to charges related to drugs and weapons. Meanwhile, the US administration indicated plans to manage Venezuela and its oil assets temporarily during a transitional period.
