Trump announces destruction of major facility in Venezuela by US forces

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump stated that US forces recently destroyed a “big facility” on Venezuela’s coast, in what appears to be the first confirmed land strike by the US in the country, according to reports.

On Friday, Trump first referenced the action during a radio interview, saying, “We just knocked out… a big plant or big facility where the ships come from. So we hit them very hard.”

Speaking Monday at Mar-a-Lago alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump described the target as an “implementation” area allegedly linked to drug trafficking.

“There was a major explosion in the dock area where they load the boats up with drugs,” he said.

Specific details about the operation remain limited. The exact location of the facility, the method of attack, the extent of damage, and any casualties are unknown. Questions directed to the Pentagon and US Southern Command have been referred to the White House, which has not issued a statement.

Trump has previously indicated that the US could carry out land strikes in Venezuela and has authorized covert CIA operations in the country as part of broader pressure on President Nicolas Maduro. When asked whether the CIA was involved in this latest strike, he declined to elaborate.

“I don’t want to say that,” Trump said. “I know exactly who it was, but I don’t want to say who it was. But you know, it was along the shore.”

The Venezuelan government has not publicly confirmed the alleged attack. Caracas has repeatedly denied involvement in drug trafficking, labeling the claims as fabricated pretexts for regime-change efforts.

The reported strike comes amid months of heightened tensions between the US and Venezuela.

Since early September, US forces have reportedly targeted at least 30 vessels suspected of drug trafficking, resulting in over 100 deaths. The US has also increased its military presence in the Caribbean, deploying 15,000 troops and multiple warships.

In addition, several tankers transporting Venezuelan oil in international waters have been seized by the US, citing violations of Washington’s unilateral sanctions. Venezuelan authorities have condemned the seizures as “piracy” and accused Trump of seeking control over the nation’s oil resources.
