Protesters fill Venezuela’s streets to protest US mounting threats

(MENAFN) Thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets Tuesday to protest what they described as growing US threats and to show backing for President Nicolas Maduro.

In the capital Caracas, demonstrators filled the streets during the “Flag and Sword March of Liberator Simon Bolivar,” carrying large Venezuelan flags and criticizing the US military presence in the Caribbean. Participants condemned the deployment as a “threat and attack,” while many carried images of Maduro and chanted pro-government slogans.

The march included police officers, soldiers, militia members, and numerous civilians, with organizers emphasizing that the event aimed to demonstrate national unity against any potential US intervention.

Walking alongside demonstrators, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said the Venezuelan people are becoming “more united each day” and remain determined to defend their freedom. He added: “In recent times, the threats of imperialism and the attacks by those who think they rule the world have increased. Their intention is to seize Venezuela’s natural resources.”

The protest followed the US designation of the Cartel de los Soles — which Washington claims is led by Maduro and senior Venezuelan officials — as a foreign terrorist organization. The Venezuelan government condemned the move, calling it an attempt to create a pretext for intervention.

US authorities have also deployed the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and its strike group to the region, framing the operation as part of international counternarcotics efforts. In response, Maduro announced the mobilization of 4.5 million militia members across Venezuela, declaring the country is ready to repel “any attack.”
